On a rare occasion, a woman will tell me that she doesn’t mind being objectified by men. To that I say:
That’s nice, but he’s not doing it because you don’t mind. He’s not waiting until he finds you, the (probably) only woman in the area who doesn’t mind. He’s doing it to every woman. He’s doing it because he wants to and he doesn’t care who likes it, and who doesn’t. He doesn’t stick around long enough to ask, he just takes.
In the end though a woman should be allowed to know her own personal mind.
If she finds being objectified insulting, then she has the right to her feelings and to have them respected.
If she actually finds it arousing then she has just as much right to feel it, and with no more need to justify herself.
You missed the entire point of my post. Objectification is never about an individual woman’s desire for it. When has a man ever asked for permission on the street to ogle or cat call?
To use maybe a better example, your blog tagline says “inner slut” - if a guy calls you a slut on the street, he’s not doing it because you’ve decided to reclaim that word for yourself. It actually has nothing to do with you personally, and all to do with his feelings towards women in general. He is doing it because he wants to feel power over you, degrade and lessen you.
